On 18 and 19 June 2024, the TRATOLOW Regional GHG workshop took place in Vienna, Austria. TRATOLOW is supporting the beneficiaries to prepare complete, accurate and transparent annual GHG inventories and inventory-related chapters for Biennial Transparency Reports and National Communications. Domestic workshops in the TRATOLOW beneficiaries preceded this regional workshop to discuss individual challenges first as there are different statuses across the Western Balkans and Türkiye.
This regional workshop included support and review of the status of the development and maintenance of GHG inventories to help the beneficiaries prepare for the increased reporting requirements under the current EU legal framework (Paris Agreement and its subsequent developments as well as with the EU Monitoring Mechanism Regulation/EU Governance Regulation). It also contained ad hoc trainings on different sectors in break out groups and presentations by the TRATOLOW beneficiaries on the individual statuses.
Participants had the chance to present their good practice examples as well as encountered challenges and exchange with other TRATOLOW beneficiaries and inventory experts on potential solutions. The event gathered representatives from the TRATOLOW beneficiaries (members of the WG for GHG inventories), representatives of the European Environment Agency, Energy Community Secretariat, inventory experts from the Austrian Environment Agency and experts from the TRATOLOW project.
The workshop provided valuable information for the TRATOLOW beneficiaries to continue their journey towards monitoring and preparing GHG inventories.
