TRATOLOW webinar regional training on carbon pricing
Online workshop on developments in the EU ETS and further carbon pricing on 27 May 2021
Webinar
Thursday, 27 May 2021
9.30 a.m.–3.30 p.m. CET
This workshop was organised in the scope of working group 3 as a webinar on Thursday, 27 May 2021. The main aim was to update a wide audience on developments in the EU ETS and further carbon pricing and provide the basis for future training in this working group.
Carbon pricing systems put an explicit price on carbon emissions so that the costs of climate impacts and the opportunities for low-carbon energy options are better reflected in our production and consumption choices. As (future) EU accession countries the beneficiary countries are preparing for implementation of carbon pricing.
The workshop updated participants on recent developments in carbon pricing at global level and specifically in the EU and in the region. Specific aim was to help prepare the future EU ETS participants and observers in the beneficiary states on the requirements and potential impacts of a price on carbon emissions in their region.
The list of speakers included several experts from DG Climate Action, the Energy Community and EU ETS consultants, as well as experts from Montenegro sharing their expertise on the national ETS and from Türkiye sharing their long-term preparations to introduction of carbon pricing in their country.
