The TAIEX TRATOLOW Regional workshop on synergies and opportunities: drafting National Energy and Climate Plans of Energy Community Contracting Parties took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 15 May 2024.

The objective of the workshop was to discuss the plans and facilitate the exchange of information regarding the main relevant issues with cross-border / regional impact identified in the draft NECPs. TRATOLOW joined forces with the Energy Community Secretariat to support not only TRATOLOW beneficiaries but also additional Contracting Parties in identifying cross-border issues and jointly finding solutions to them.

The workshop provided valuable information related to the importance of the regional dimension in the development and implementation of the NECPs as learned from draft NECPs already submitted in 2023 as well as real examples from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Kosovo*. Case studies were discussed in breakout sessions and enriched by identified cross-border challenges. It was disclosed that draft NECPs submitted need to be discussed with neighboring countries and ample time for feedback is to be foreseen in order to jointly create cost-efficient policies and measures that benefit all.

The workshop was wrapped up by lessons learned from the Austrian NECP and the regional consultations approach used there.

Overall, the workshop raised awareness of the impacts of the individual policies and measures across neighboring countries and is expected to improve the individual NECPs as such by keeping the identified challenges and opportunities in mind and aligning the implementation with others.
