TAIEX TRATOLOW Regional workshop on Energy sector modeling for NDCs

What is the current state in regard to energy sector modelling for revision of the NECPs and NDCs in the TRATOLOW beneficiary countries? What challenges do they face? To find answers to these questions, a two-day workshop on energy sector modeling for NDCs took place on September 13-14. The participants ranged from representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Energy Community, CITEPA, experienced companies in the field of energy modelling like E3, ARTELYS, REKK to vice president, Dr. Bektaş and participants from ministries and public institutions of the TRATOLOW beneficiary countries.
Within the workshop, main drivers and assumptions, input and output data, modelling tools and approaches were presented. Existing approaches and energy and climate targets were discussed, followed by an overview of challenges and benefits in the member states. Further discussions with the workshop participants aimed to clarify the issue of a regional approach to energy sector modelling. Furthermore, the inclusion of social and economic aspects into modelling was discussed as well as the role of energy sub-sectors in the modelling process. The workshop concluded with the sharing of experiences and insights to allow participants to learn from previous experiences.
As a result, the workshop participants gained an deeper understanding of the energy sector tools and approaches, European energy and climate targets, energy sector modeling for NDCs and NECPs, the analysis of socio-economic aspects, regional cooperation and its importance as well as needs for implementation.
