Over the past decade, Montenegro has experienced several significantly damaging, climate-related events, e.g. floods, extreme heat waves and droughts. Therefore, adaptation to climate-risks is of high importance. This two-day domestic workshop therefore focused on monitoring, reporting and evaluation (MRE) at a national and European level.

Within the workshop, best practice examples from countries with experience in monitoring and evaluation of their national adaption strategies and plans were looked into. The focus here: What have other countries like EU Member states learned in the adaptation policy making process and to share these challenges and experiences with the Montenegrin colleagues.

Further discussed topics included engagement of stakeholders, adaptation indicators and their specific role as well as required and existing knowledge about MRE activities. In addition, the workshop served as an interactive space for sharing experiences and insights, among others  also about national monitoring and evaluation approaches in Finland, Austria, Bulgaria, Moldova and other EEA member countries.

The workshop was concluded with an interactive discussion about which of the learnings from others can be relevant for the context in Montenegro and thus support domestic adaptation efforts.
