Regional workshop on urban adaptation, resilience and SECAP adaptation component

This two-day workshop in Istanbul on February 22-23, 2023 was held jointly with the GIZ led project ‘Covenant of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Türkiye’ to exchange on and discuss climate adaptation efforts in urban areas in the region. The workshop aimed to promote the exchange of experience and good practices among beneficiaries with the focus on urban adaptation, resilience, and the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) adaptation components, in particular, related to heat and pluvial flood in urban areas and their surroundings.
The workshop was attended by a range of relevant stakeholders, including representatives from the beneficiary countries, ministries, public institutions, representatives of cities and municipalities and experts of the TRATOLOW and GIZ project. The event provided a platform to exchange knowledge and share best practices on a variety of topics related to SECAPs, including SECAP development, climate risks, approaches for preparing and developing adaptation measures in response to climate change, and urban adaptation strategies implemented in European countries. Participants received guidance on the Urban Adaptation Support Tool (UAST) and learned about the latest activities and status quo of urban adaptation and cities' resilience in all TRATOLOW beneficiaries.
The event helped to promote efforts to make further progress in improving climate resilience in urban areas. It also promoted the exchanges between beneficiaries and urban areas through sharing experience and good practices, which will support the development of SECAPs and foster cooperation with the Covenant of Mayors initiative.
